Dream Team Reunited

Tuesday the 11th of April 2005

"I don't know why we're worrying about it,when was the last time you saw one of my plans actually work"
GARETH 06/04/05

A week looking at the organisation and playing of one of the worlds greatest football games.....

Monday 4th April

12.30 pm. For no particular reason I have a brainwave.(These occur about twice a year). Seeing as everyone is back home from Easter and doing nothing, why dont we have a year 13 Vs 14 footbll match much like the ones we loved every lunchtime. After discussing with Tays,we stick up a post on our 6th form forum advertising the game. I figure play 5pm Sunday as no one works then....

" After much planning from gareth and myself (mostly gareth tho) we have decided to have a match* on sunday 10th april, at 5pm in town park - hopefully with both mine and kingers goal "
TAYS 04/04/05

The first problem arises when John,Jack and Craig can't make the game. I reassure them I will look at alternatives but I'm not sure what else I can do.

Tuesday 5th April

We look at playing either Tuesday or Thursday instead. This gives me a headache imediately as Hutch can only make Thurs and Nick can only make Tues.

Theres also a bit of pressure now for the match to be played at Woodmarsh not the Park...

"Quick question,Why are we playing it in the Park?"
Kinger 05/04/05

Wednesday 6th April
Theres more pressure to play at Woodmarsh and I'm starting to sway towards the idea... Also more people are favouring playing on Thursday. I'm not keen on letting Nick down after telling him about the game.

By this point im starting to wonder a.Why I came up with this idea and B.How I thought I could pull it off.

Cue second brainwave of the year.....

" Only other prospect is a 2 parter. This Sunday at Woodmarsh then Thurs down the park. This way everyone gets a chance to play at least one game as some cant make Sun and some cant make Thurs"
Gareth 06/04/05

Thursday 7th April

The idea is a hit and the best way for everyone to play. Thats sorted but now I have to figure out moving the goals..... One goal can be moved to Woodmarsh fine but how can we move another if they dont fit in cars and they wont dismember? As the goals are so tricky to move I decide it's best to play at Woodmarsh not the park.

Friday 8th April
Support is now growing for the two legged idea and most players are able to make both days. I'm packing and ringing our team trying to get everyone down with a fair amount of success. Luckily people such as Grist and swade are able to help making it lss of a strain on my phone bill. Still a problem with the second goal.. Kinger says it's fine to use his goal but we have no idea how to get it there.

Saterday 9th April.
I arrive back into trow and go and watch TK's gig,at the same time securing Hutch for the first leg. Quality! Kinger mentions that his goal can be dismembered and thus fit into a car. I now feel like finally this match will go ahead....

Sunday 10th April

D- Day

After grabbing a camera,Swade gives me and Dickie a lift up to Woodmarsh, where soon most of our team arrive, minus Kelv and TK who couldnt make it. In contrast only 5 year 13's have arrived making things look strong for us. Kingers arrives with his body bag and while the year 13's set the goal up we take a team photo.

HAWKES

LUGG TAYLOR HOLLOWAY HUTCH BATCH

HICKERTON SWADE BROWN HARRISON

BEASLEY

GRIST

45 mins each way and the game finally kicks off......

2 Mins - Early scare for the year 14's. Hawkes goal kick falls straight to King who instinctively volleys with the outside of his foot, narrowly missing the open goal.

4 Mins -
GOAL - King has looked the most likely to score and a long shot richocheted off Hawkes and he followed it up with a simple tap in. Awful start for Year 14 who havent had a shot at goal yet - 1-0!!

6 Mins - First effort of the game to the Year 14 who are looking a bit more lively with Peter providing a cross and Harrison shooting but missing the target.

8 mins - Hawkes makes a secure catch from a long Chamberlain shot, earning applause and probably reassuring his defence a little after that awful start.

10 mins -
GOAL -
The 'Tesco Connection' link up again with Beasley switching play from right to left and Grists selfless pass finds Brown who powers it first time down the centre of goal on his weaker left foot. 1-1

13 Mins - Year 14 have another effort on goal but Beasley blazes it over from long distance.

17 Mins - Hickerton leaves after a poor performance.

20 Mins - The Year 14 goal is being bombarded by cross after cross as Year 13 look to retake the lead. Batch clears off the line from a Mounty effort.

22 Mins - Brown is lucky not to concede a free kick after a dangerous looking challenge on Thornes which has left him limping.
23 Mins- A Jesus like figure in the distance turns out to be young TK who has miraculously made it to the game. This distracts the Year 14 who are busy cheering him onto the pitch....

24 Mins -
GOAL -
Mounty picks the ball up takes two touches and fires a shot to the bottom left corner giving the ever impressive Hawkes no chance. Beautiful goal and it's 2-1

27 Mins -
GOAL -
Hutch hoofs the ball up the pitch where Holloway has made a fantastic run. One on One with the keeper he lobs the ball over for an exquisite finish against the run of play 2-2

29 Mins - The goal has changed the tide of the game with Brown unable to find Grist who was in space to make it 3-2

32 Mins - Year 14 almost go behind again as the right hand flank is explited by Mounty and Brens. Luckily Batch is on hand to deal with the danger.

35 Mins - GOAL - A hopeful ball finds Hutch of all people who's able to force Steffers into a poor clearance which unfortunatly beats his own keeper. Year 14 take the lead for the first time 2-3

37 Mins - GOAL -
Comodiation in the Year 13 box with Harrisson,Brown,Grist and Beasley passing it around before finding Swade who isn't closed down, giving him the time needed to fire a shot in. 2-4

40 Mins - Year 14 look for another goal to kill the tie off with Beasley shooting when passing to Grist may have been a better option. Grist looks frustrated as he's still not off the mark.

42 Mins - The Year 13 batter the goal with the defence having it's work cut out. Hawkes,Lugg and Holloway all making crucial clearances to keep the scoreline the same going into halftime.

47 Mins - GOAL - Deep into injury time Brens cross finds an unmarked Kinger who takes one touch past Hawkes near post and sidefoots it in the empty netto give Year 13 hope right on the stroke of half time 3-4

HALF TIME - 3-4

The halftime talk consists of Tk's gig and what a tosser Campbell Simpson our old headteacher was. Inspiring stuff!!

49 Mins - GOAL
- The team talk must have done something as a Harrison TK link up results in a low cross which allows Grist ime to step on the ball on the line, fall over, laugh and poke it in. It's classic Grist and the 2 goal margin is restored 3 -5

55 Mins - Holloway is in the thick of things again, breaking down two attacks in a row and leading the back four.

58 Mins - Year 13 are pressuring the Year 14 goal again with Lugg being called into action as he closes down Steffers at the expense of a corner.

60 Mins - GOAL - After Pinball (trib big ron) in the Year 14 box,Mounty powers the ball home from 10 yards
4-5

62 Mins - Hawkes makes a cat like save with his leg from a long distance from Mounty as Year 13 search for an equaliser.

65 Mins - In a breakaway,Beasley still searches for his goal and blazes over when there were better options.

69 Mins - GOAL -
A rare piece of skill from Grist sees him make himself some space before punting the ball in bottom corner from trademark Grist range of a couple of yards. 4 -6

71 Mins - CONTREVERSY - A cross from the left sees Harrison challenge the keeper resulting in Brown controlling the spilt ball with the outside of his foot and and easy pass into the net. However it's ruled out due to Harrisons challenge on the keeper being deemed as dangerous. Brown takes it well tho....

"F*CK OFF,WE'RE HAVING THAT... YOUR JOKING. OH FOR F*CKS SAKE HE DIDNT CHALLENGE THE KEEPER HE DROPPED IT... WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE'S EVEN ADMITTED IT... MARK YOUR SO F*CKING GAY I SWEAR THAT WASA FINE GOAL.... OH FOR F*CKS SAKE THATS F*CKING TYPICAL.BASTARDS.ALL OF YOU!"
GARETH 10/04/05

72 Mins - GOAL Singadia shots from long distance, clipping Browns heel as Hawkes is unable to get a foot to it in time 5 -6

75 Mins - The pattern of play is the same as before with Year 13 using both flanks well in an attempt to grab the equaliser and Year 14 being pushed back into their own half.

78 Mins - Beasley blazes over again after a golden chance with Harrisson,Grist and Beasley against just Chamberlain. Beasley opts to take it past the defender rather then releasing one of the wide men and Chamberlain is able to deal with it comfortably.

79 Mins - GOAL
The two goal margin is restored as Harrison records his first goal of the game,a dodgy first time hit thats creeps in the net 5 -7

"It was late in the game, and it was a game that still wasnt won, i still had bags of energy and knew something had to be done to secure the victory, the ball came in and i knew i had to stirike it true, first time no hesitation, clipped David Singadia then just heard back of the net and the cheers"
Harrison - Just now on MSN

81 Mins - Beasleys best chance for a goal as he instinctively volleys a half clearance just wide

84 Mins - A challenge on Singadia by Grist makes a loud noise. Singadia gets up as if he's going to smack Grist but instead runs towards the ball allowing play to continue.

87 Mins - The back line are streched time and time again but nothing is getting past Holloway who's having an inspired game.

90 Mins - Time is nearly up and Brens is not happy about it, as he begins to cry much like Gazza in Italy '90.

93 Mins - It's all over and scenes of jubilation for Year 14 as they win 7-5. Mounty is the first to offer the handshakes as plans are made to go to the 'Hungry Horse' for an aftergame drink.

Player Ratings

Ricohard Hawkes - Good catches and stops but was lucky to have such a rock defense in front of him. Couldnt deal with the strikes he didnt save apart from Kingers second. - 7/10

Nick Lugg - Stopped the attacking threat of Sam Steff brilliantly. Never wandered up the pitch and rarely caught out. 8.5/10

Richard Taylor - Stayed back and broke down may attacks 7.5/10

Nathan Holloway - The reason why Year 14 could afford to be so attacking with him at the back. Great communication, inspiration and best taken goal of the game - 10/10

Matt Hutch - Instrumentive member of the defence and brilliant coming forwards. Had a solid game where he could keep an eye on TK - 8.5/10

Ali Batch - Had his hands full with the threat of Brens and Mounty and did well despite the lack of midfield support he had 8.5/10

Hickerton - Did nothing and went home early - 2/10

TK - Few good touches, few bad ones. Will flourish under the supervision of Hutch and inspired celebrations of guitair playing for Brown and Swades goals 6/10

Brown - Scored the early goal and was unlucky to have a second disallowed. Head went down after that but kept running to break down the midfield - 7/10

Swade - Took goal very well and was the link from defence to midfield. Was unlucky to never recieve the ball back off Beizley - 7.5/10

Harrisson - Never stopped runing and was a main attacking threat. Provided several crosses that the keeper had to deal with - 9/10

Grist - Comical and showed his poacher ability. Unlucky not to have had the service to get a hattrick 9/10

Beisley - A great talent who seemed to play well for the first 30 mins before quest for goal resulted in selfish play. Didnt even score 5/10

And that's it. The best idea I've probably ever had.

The second game is at Thurs, hopefully it will go just as well!
